One of my professors one day asked our class what the purpose of life is. People gave a few noble-sounding suggestions, but everyone was surprised when my professor said it was to be happy. Ever since that class, I have wondered why this was such a difficult answer. It seemed like a shameful thing to even say, as if it goes against everything I have been taught. In The Fountainhead, Ayn Rand has addressed this issue in more depth than I could imagine. She has once again challenged my perspective on life and the way that I view society.

Holy cow, it was really good! It took me a while to really get into it but once I did I couldn't put it down! The characters were all so developed and it really made me think about what I'm living as.

Not to be trite, but it changed my life.... I had held altruistic premises which were contradictory but that I just had been ignoring, and the result of this was being rather miserable and self loathing. Objectivism has allowed me, for the first time in a long time, to feel genuinely good about myself and about reality. Everyone should read this book.

It may easily have been the most important book I've ever read, and perhaps may ever read. It it many ways confirmed what I had already come to believe on my own, but it crystalized and deepened my own understanding in a way I would never on my own.
